Description

*I feel like Mark got the short end of the stick in the last picture, so I gave him his own model sheet. (I also threw in Claire in her updated design, for comparison's sake.)

"MARK" THE MARSHTOMP - male (age 15, psychologically)

- Rash nature, Strongly defiant

- Water/Ground type

- Torrent ability

- Water Pulse, Protect, Ice Beam, Mud Shot

Mark has a fairly unique position among Grant's core group of Pokémon, as he was not originally trained by Grant. Mark used to belong to Grant's cousin JUSTY TAYLOR, who apparently had some problems training him, and sent him to stay with Grant for a few months so he could take it easy for a while. Well, a "while" eventually turned into a permanent situation, so Mark is now Grant's Pokemon, officially. Mark doesn't really mind the change, as he enjoys being around Grant's other Pokémon, and they like being around him, for the most part.

Mark is friendly enough, as fish-frog creatures go, but suffers from a few key character flaws. For one thing, his impulsive temperament can lead him into some pretty foolish situations at times. For another thing, while he is completely honest, Mark's utter lack of sensitivity has a way of consistently getting him into trouble with his words. (He has made plenty of enemies this way, believe me.) Also, while he is a capable battler, Mark can be pretty lazy when it comes to Pokémon battles, or just work in general, for that matter. It usually takes a great amount of coaxing to get him to do anything really important.

Despite these flaws, those who really know Mark know that he is an easygoing and tolerant individual, and absolutely loyal to those whom he considers as friends, which ultimately makes him a worthy teammate to have around. He also possesses a strong sense of justice, and won't hesitate to stand up to bullies, even at the risk of his own wellbeing, so bonus points for that.

Mark gets along alright with Grant's other Pokémon, but seems to favor the company of Fyremine and Cassie, especially. He sees Shakespeare as an old stick-in-the-mud half the time, and often teases Claire about her various habits (more on that later). Shakespeare largely tolerates Mark's foolish tendencies, but is quick to vine-whip Mark back into shape when he really steps out of line (which is quite often).

Owing to their similar, yet conflicting personalities, Claire seems to butt heads with Mark the most of anyone. Even so, Claire tries her hardest to be patient with Mark, whom she sees as a younger brother/cousin of sorts, because she sees where Mark's history is very much like her own (again, more on that later). Also, when he isn't being an intolerable loudmouth, Claire actually thinks Mark is kind of cute. Kind of.

On a final note, Mark appears to have a low opinion of evolution. Even though he evolved once into Marshtomp (mostly to gain the benefit of being part ground-type), he adamantly refuses to evolve again into Swampert, even though he has the necessary experience to do so. Claire suspects it stems from a desire to remain small, cute, and huggable, but only Mark knows for sure and he isn't telling.
